Why did you join 2Up 2Down?

I’ve lived close to this area for over thirty years. In the past, I’ve been involved in child’s play work and that’s moved into working with community and neighbourhood development through the arts. With 2up 2down, I got involved with just observing and documenting the process and I spent a lot of time just listening to people and hearing what they have to say. And I think over time, I felt that it was such a lovely idea that I wanted to bring a whole load of things and ideas into what was going on here. I also wanted to be in a position to buy a loaf from Mitchell’s Bakery. So when I’m in that queue to buy a loaf of bread, I’ll know where it all started from and the journey that the bakery took to get to where it is.

What does living well mean to you?

I have to say that my vision doesn’t have anything to do with housing or food, or keeping physically or mentally healthy – it’s about choice. It’s about having that choice in the area you live to do the things you choose to. It’s about having a choice over the food you eat and being able to choose whether to live healthy or not. What you decide to do should be down to you but that choice needs to be there. I also think that anything that offers us that choice is a vital thing to be working towards and that’s why 2Up 2Down is important because it offers us more choice in our homes and also our food.
